TVBS International Forum: The New State of Affairs After Biden's Inauguration

The forum will be moderated by renowned anchor Jaw Shaw-kong and feature three heavyweight policy experts: Jiang Yi-huah (former premier), Su Chi (former secretary-general of the National Security Council), and Su Hung-da (chairman of Taiwan Association of International Relations). The event will also feature an exclusive interview with Professor Graham Allison, who is a foreign policy advisor to President Joe Biden, on the new administration’s core policies. The event is co-sponsored by the Department of Political Science, National Taiwan University (NTU); Department of Political Science, National Chengchi University (NCCU); Department of Diplomacy, NCCU; and Graduate Institute of Political Science, National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) and invite students from these leading government and policy academic departments to attend.

The forum will focus on the topics including challenges facing Biden after he takes office, including racial conflicts caused by Trumpism and the impact on American democracy of the incumbent president not admitting defeat, coupled with the serious pandemic in the United States, which will test Biden’s leadership. The agenda will further examine mainland China’s international deployments, including its intention to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and signing the China-EU investment agreement. Finally, the Biden administration may potentially adjust U.S. policy towards Taiwan, which would affect Taiwan’s opportunity and international position, especially in the context of the strategic triangle among the United States, mainland China, and Taiwan. The forum’s in-depth discussion will focus on these topics.
